Note that this always was and always will be a player's instrument. If you are handy with instrument repair, you could turn this back into a great instrument. I don't do woodwork or instrument repair, so I don't know if the headstock could be glued back together, or if the neck could. I replaced the original tailpiece with a modern one, but the original tailpiece and endpin are included. It was originally a square neck, but at some point someone sanded down the neck and made it into a round neck. Obviously it is not playable right now, but is a potential project for someone. When I was playing this, it was a killer sounding instrument- lots of volume and very woody sounding, not at all thin sounding. But I had it packed away for years- getting a Scheerhorn will do that to you.At any rate, I pulled it out a few years ago, and found that the headstock had snapped off- see the pictures. This was my primary instrument about 25 years ago. International buyers please e-mail for shipping costs prior to bidding. Please ask question s and feel free to shoot us an offer! WE SHIP FAST! The metal plate has some oxidation on it too. Bel t buckle like wear are all on the front. There is binding missing from a small area on the b ack of the body near the neck joint. The body shows heavy signs of usage and wear. It also appears some of the mo ther of pearl fret inlays are been replaced or r e-glued. The fretboard is in astounding condition for its age. But despite their look, they DO NOT harm the functionality or the playability of the gui tar. T he majority of the neck's fin ish has been worn off due to use. Has some girth to it, and has heavy signs of usage on the back. And it i s possible the tuners aren't original despite the tune rs being quite yellowed. The headstock has numerous scratches and fin ish checking. Th e gui tar has been heavily used over it s nearly 80 year life. But this one heavily resembles the Model 45 in other visual aspects. So I'd say: Regal or Dobro, Chicago-made and 1930's as Mike E said. ![]() A Google search on "Regal resonator mandolin" reveals several such instruments, some labeled "Dobro," some "Regal" some have the round-hole resonator cover with f-holes in the shoulders, some have screen holes instead. My Dobro's got the "moon & stars" coverplate - crescent and star-shaped piercings - while this one has clusters of round holes. Regal made many bodies for Dobro, and Dobro sold many resonators to Regal, so without a headstock decal it's hard to attribute definitively. Body's exactly like my late '30's Dobro mandolin, other than the fact that mine has "screen holes" in the shoulders, and this one has f-holes. ![]()
